Time to plant seeds of change on Flaming Arrows - Sagittarius New Moon
Sky at dusk in New Mexico
Today we have a new moon in Sagittarius and over the previous weekend we had some transits that proved to be quite difficult going into this week. Pluto was sextiling Mercury, Mars squared Neptune and the sun trined Chiron. These transits taken together signify a favorability towards understanding difficult information that could be transformational in nature, as well as a propensity for male viewpoints to get less traction in the delusional landscape of our media. It also sheds some much needed light on the early wounds we have individually or as a society.
It is, therefor unsurprising that we had several mass shootings and the horrific slaying of the acclaimed director of The Princess Bride and Stand by Me, highlighting the faustian bargain the West has made to remain hegemonic through arms sales as our number one export, and our failure to sufficiently address mental health and substance abuse in this country. The chickens seem to perpetually be coming home to roost. This is not helped by the fact that the some of the only good parts of the Affordable Care Act are set to expire in January. Namely the ability to stay on ones parents healthcare until 26 and the inability for insurance companies to deny ones claim on the basis of a pre-existing condition. We also have seen the steady fragmentation of the hydra that is the right wing government of the United States. It remains to be seen though if the powers that are running this whole charade are not just going to coalesce around some other grift whether team Red or Blue at this point. My hope is that the people keep waking up to the nightmare and realize the only way out is to fight through.
And with all that said it is important to keep in mind the joy and beauty that still exists in the struggle.
On one of my patrols this week at a local school that needs some continued presence to alert the community to potential ICE and CBP activity, I received deep reverential nods and waves from many cars of local uncles in the neighborhood. In moments like these, these interractions with strangers in which we have eachothers backs, I truly feel like things will be fine. So for anyone who is feeling like there is nothing that can be done, I want to encourage you to try just doing one small thing for someone you don’t even know, lighten their load in some way, watch how you start feeling hopeful, watch how you start to do more for your community than you ever imagined possible.
On that note I have been working on a writing project with an organizer from Detroit who has been working with organizers nationwide, towards a national strike in 2028. For those of you who became interested in politics two days ago and are full of piss and vinegar saying “2028!? We need it NOW!”, I need you to remember that in order for a strike to be successful in it’s aims, you need to secure “buy in” from folks first and this means listening to their needs and addressing them through building support structures beforehand and this takes time. When we had a strike at my hospital during deep covid, it took us months to secure buy in from union members before we could go ahead with it. We needed to negotiate with our administrators to come up with systems to still take care of our patients, many of whom are marginalized. We also needed to come up with a strike fund to be able to take care of our members who would experience significant financial hardship. We needed to figure out how to take care of peoples families including children and elders etc. Now imagine this for instead of a little over a thousand people, a few hundred million!
So this Sagittarius new moon will also encourage us to plant seeds by way of flaming arrows. Think seed bombs. This is when people throw balls of seeds of native plants into an area to help reforest it and get out the invasive growth. Think small acts that may not have an impact until much later but are also none the less, very necessary right now in this very moment. Don’t worry about if you or your immediate family will benefit from any one action directly, just do it and move on. I think you’ll be surprised at the results.
