what is an astrology reading?
Just like gravity is a force that is exerted on us, these astral bodies also exert different types of forces on us. Once we learn what these forces are we can better understand the ebbs and flows of our lives and have more grace for ourselves throughout the process. Some of the planetary energies expressed through “transits” may take a lifetime or more to resolve. Transits are when two planets come together to make a specific angle. The type of angle they forms tells us what kind of transit they are. There are also transits to our birth charts or the specific map of the stars the second you were born. This is when certain planets form an angle to the position of where a specific planet was at the time of your birth.
With all this information an astrologer is able to tell you what kinds of energies you may have to contend with at the moment and for roughly how long, as well as in what parts of your life you may have to contend with these energies. As the astrologer Jessica Lanyadoo says “astrology is math”. However, it is specifically how this math informs the human experience that lends itself to philosophical underpinnings.
If you sign up for a reading with me you will first get an orientation to your Natal/Birth chart under the house system I use for your particular chart. Every astrologer has a house system they are most comfortable with. I generally use Whole Sign but also frequently use Placidus or Campanus systems if discrepancies arise.
The house system orients us to what areas of your life certain planetary transits will be the most felt when and why. There are many different types of astrological techniques and types of astrology. Some of these are “electional astrology” which looks at determining the best time to execute something, solar return techniques which tell you about how your birth date and the subsequent year may unfold, synastry which looks at the way two people/places/events or any combination there of, may interract, etc. After we are both on the same page with the language that we will be using, I will decide what specific type of astrology and technique will fit you at this particular time of your life.
The other thing to keep in mind when getting a reading, is that they are not predictive of how YOU specifically will use the energies. Two people may have the exact same birth chart but express it in different ways. Getting an astrology reading does not absolve you of your free will/agency in the matter thankfully in my humble opinion. For example, two people could both have the planet Neptune in the sign of Leo in the 5th house of creativity and one person be extremely outgoing, extroverted and forward facing when it comes to their artistic creations but manifest Neptune, which can be associated with a lack of strong boundaries, in their art itself which doesn’t quite fit into a specific genre. The other person could be outgoing, extroverted and forward facing with their creativity, but easily swayed into bad deals artistically as a result of letting their “boundary-less” Neptune run unchecked.
