Voting rights and collective open wounds on an otherwise healing new moon in Taurus
So we had the Sun sextilingJupiter on Mothers Day this past week. Before I roll into the afro-astro-politico-horror-scope for this new moon in Taurus, lets discuss the implications of Mothers Day.
These holidays can often be difficult for us. Many people get triggered on these days that are supposed to honor humans. I was reminded of this when I overheard someone say “Happy Mothers Day” and the person responded “I’m not a mother and my mother is dead”. These cavalier, well intended, statements can have triggering impacts on us. Specifically, if the person of honor has died or you have a strained relationship with them. Not to mention if someone has being trying to get pregnant for a long time, or had children who have passed or miscarriages etc. What I’m saying is, there are a lot more opportunities we have for Mothers Day to go sideways on us, so why do we assume that everyone’s experience of it is filled with puppies and rainbows?
If people thought more about the impact of our words versus how we intended things to land, the world would be a much different place. So just blindly walking around saying “Happy Mothers Day”, especially to strangers, might not be it.
That being said, the astrological significations of Sun in Taurus sextiliing Jupiter in Cancer is a favorable one that encourages deep care on an expansive level. So hopefully you used that energy to deeply care for the femmes in your life of all persuasions.
So the new moon is in the same sign as the sun. That’s what happens when we have a new moon as opposed to a full moon which happens when the sun and moon are in opposing signs. The sign of Taurus is an earth sign that is ruled by the planet Venus which points us to sensual delights and comforts of all kinds.
New moons in earth signs are often good times to plant seeds. This new moon is also happening at the same time as Mars is conjunct Chiron. This is a bit of a mixed bag. It points me towards advising folks to schedule time for decadent self care like warm baths, massages, and pedicures. Whether you do those things by yourself, with a friend or lover, or have the resources to get them done professionally.
Mars conjunct Chiron may push us towards self depricating, or getting triggered by long standing negative self talk, or getting irritated with someone else who goads us back into old conflicts. It may also unearth something that the new moon in Taurus then helps us to heal, learn, and plant what we learned to help us this moon cycle. The energies can go a number of different ways. Remember, life is non-bionary.
The other thing that happened on Thursday the 14th that may have us gaining more clarity before going into the new moon, is that Mercury met up with the sun in Taurus. This will undoubtably, help us gleen what we need to from the more challenging parts of the Mars conjunct Chiron during the new moon in Taurus.
The Supreme Court dismantled the key part of the Voting Rights Act that protect against racial discrimination in voting
on April 29th, as Venus in Gemini squared the north node in Pisces. Apparently, this part is no longer needed because we live in a post racial democracy 😒. Uuuum then can someone explain to me why my black friend, who was mistaken for a man, was thrown on the hood of a police vehicle for asking them for directions? Can someone explain to me why I was called the N word at a cafe in Berkeley, apparently one of the most progressive places in the country 😒 ? Why I saw a black woman almost get run over in a crosswalk in Alameda by a man who sped through yelling the N word with a very hard r at the end? I stopped her and we had a moment together. She said “I’m not surprised, I’m used to it”. She didn’t seem convinced that we were a “post racial” country either. Did we forget about January 6th? Did we forget about officers not letting elderly black folk in the south in the last election, drink water while they waited in long lines to vote!? Why did my friend in Houston tell me in the last election, she went to her usual polling place and was told she now needed to drive over 2hrs to vote. But sure, we don’t need the racial protections in voting measures enshrined in the Voting Rights Act 🙄.
A square is an aspect we see when things are humming along, business as usual, in a certain area and then all of a sudden change in their tracks and turn onto another course. In this case, the square was between Venus, which often represents marginalized groups, and the north node, which represents forward motion, progress, profound change on an emotional level in some ways. The north node represents one of two places in the sky that eclipses occur. The north node was also in retrograde motion, hence the backwards motion of the legislation protecting the voting rights of non-white people here in the US. I hate to break it to ya’ll, but that’s a lot of the current US population, even a lot of ya’ll who self identify as white. Even those of ya’ll who think you have bought into whiteness, may be in for some unpleasant news at the polls with this one right here.
I think it’s time that those who haven’t been taking this administration seriously, start taking it seriously.
The whole administration is a grift. As evidenced most recently by Trump being caught day trading and giving his old pool guy a multi-billion dollar contract to work on turning some pool in DC blue or some sh*t. It’s all grift, kick backs, and socialism for the rich. I can’t make this sh*t up ya’ll. I know that everyone’s attention span these days amounts to about 3 seconds, so I also want to remind you that we have: had Roe V Wade repealed, Hegseth (our head of the Department of War) wants to reinstitute the automatic draft in December, we have had armed federal agents on our streets for months now, we have literal death camps in our backyards, they are whittling away at the rights of women and black people to vote with the SAVE act and the repeal of key portions of the Voting Rights Act, and Trump is talking about a third term. This isn’t even a 10th of everything that they’ve done. All the heinous things they have done, they told us they would do, so I think it’s safe to say we can believe them now. It’s time to take them seriously and start planning with our communities if we haven’t already.
The new moon in Taurus happening at the same time as the Mars conjunct Chiron in Aries wants us to plant seeds from what we’ve learned from the struggle. It wants us to invest the pain and suffering we’re going through, not into nihilism, but into deep rooted actions that protect each other. It wants us to find moments of joy in the struggle, calm in the eye of this storm that is life’s current expression.
